NYC Parks Without Borders Statement Contradicts with the Agency's Own Forestry Report.

The Parks Department misrepresented the health of the 58 mature trees marked for removal. In video recordings of public hearings, NYC Parks Without Borders presenters repeatedly told residents that the trees to be removed "are at the end of their lives." "not going to last very long anyway"

Parks Without Borders presenters have repeatedly described the north side of the park heavily used by residents as “underutilized", or "sparsely used.” This has caused outcry by residents at public hearings.

Georgette Poe, who lives in the Walt Whitman Houses, said the parks department barely reached out to NYCHA complexes that border the portion of the project that will go under construction.

"They didn't even get to know us," Poe said. "How dare you come into our neighborhood park and change it all."
